Blue light from a mobile phone may permanently damage the eye???

Blue light is light with a wavelength between 400 and 460 nanometers. It is the light that is emitted from a screen of a mobile phone, computer, tablet, or any other handheld device.
Blue light has the ability to damage the eye. It has been known to cause various eye problems, including cataracts, macular degeneration, and even glaucoma.
Blue light can also be damaging to your skin. If you use your phone or computer while you are sleeping, you may have to worry about the skin damage that can occur.
It is important to note that the blue light from a mobile phone is different from the blue light from the sun.
The blue light from a mobile phone is more intense and comes from a smaller source.
In brief, blue light damages the retina.
The study, conducted at the University of Toledo, found that people with blue light-emitting devices, such as computers, smartphones, and tablets, are at a higher risk of developing macular degeneration.
“The research found that when people spend more time looking at a mobile screen, they are more likely to develop macular degeneration,” said Karunarathne.
Karunarathne’s research, along with that of other scientists, shows that blue light from computer screens can damage the retina.
The study, which was published in the journal Ophthalmology, looked at data from more than 20,000 people. The data was collected from a study called the Beaver Dam Eye Study.
The study found that people who spent more than five hours a day using a mobile and computer screen were more likely to develop macular degeneration.
On the other hand, green light and yellow light have longer wavelengths and therefore have less energy.
“The fact that we could not see any toxicity with green or yellow light suggests that the energy from blue light is sufficient to cause this toxicity,” said Karunarathne.
The team also found that the toxicity is likely to be due to the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and that ROS production is the main reason for the toxicity.
Karunarathne said that the team will continue to study the mechanism of retinal-generated toxicity, and will also look at the possibility of using this phenomenon for killing cancer cells.
“We are also looking at the possibility of using this mechanism to treat cancer,” he said.
Conversely, if someone blinks more, the tears stay on the surface of the eye longer, keeping the cornea hydrated.
“The problem is,” says Bevels Angela Bevels, OD, founder and owner of Elite Dry Eye Spa in Tucson, Arizona. “many people don’t blink enough, and many people don’t blink enough at the right times.”
Bevels explains that people who are generally healthy have a natural blink rate of approximately 12 to 15 times per minute. But people who are stressed, tired, or have dry eyes blink less.
“If someone is stressed, they may blink only five times a minute,” says Bevels. “If they are tired, they may blink only six to eight times a minute.”
In addition, Bevels says that some people have a naturally higher blink rate than others. “Some people blink more than 20 times per minute,” she says.
This recommendation is important because blue light exposure is linked to eye problems such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and even glaucoma.
According to a study from the National Eye Institute, blue light exposure has been linked to “a higher risk of developing macular degeneration.”
Another study published in the journal Optometry and Vision Science found that “the risk of developing cataracts was doubled in people who used smartphones for more than two hours a day.”
The bottom line is that too much blue light exposure is bad for your eyes and you should do everything in your power to limit your exposure.
